Mpho Pholo was born in East London in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. His first foray into DJing was in 2002 when he hosted a radio show at the University of Cape Town. During this period, he honed his knack for identifying hit songs long before they became commercially successful. Mpho’s ever-evolving skill set includes playing the piano, music direction, live music production and DJing. A classically trained pianist (Trinity Grade 8 Piano, Grade 6 UNISA Theory), he has performed at the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town. He produced many of the songs on more than 10 albums with a string of high-rotation radio singles. His debut in composing for television began with the theme song for The Apprentice South Africa (2004) and the current theme song for the music show Afro Café. He concludes:
“The reason I create music is to express emotions in the purest sense. Just as people are multi-faceted, some of the music I create such as dance, soul or hip hop ….causes you to think, others might make you cry, and some will bring you joy!”
